The Museum is also a place of transmission of the historic memory, this one element for personal and collective identity. The Museum is not only a collection of ancient finds, but it is an active place that interacts with the visitors. From the route of the Museum the visitors can get not only pleasure of the goods showed but also be goaded as regards opinions and valuations.

WHY THE MUSEUM

The Museum of the Military Landing in Sicily - 1943 is dedicated to the historical event, during the Second World War, which started up Sicily and the whole Italy towards the liberation from the German occupation.

On the 10th July1943 the Americans and the British landed in the eastern coast of Sicily respectively near Gela and near the coasts of Augusta.

The Allies occupied “easily all the western Sicily, while in the eastern coast the British and Canadians met the attack of the German resistance” (Denis Mack Smith).

WHY THE MUSEUM  2

The Museum shows the stages of the battles that took place above all in the western Sicily like Gela, Augusta, Agira, Floridia, Troina, Ponte di Primosole, Catania, Messina.

The Museum of the Landing in Sicily - 1943 constitutes a vivid and concrete evidence of what happened in Sicily. It has been conceived and wants to not forget what has happened and to think about what we want for our future.
