Historical Museum of the Landing in Sicily 1943

History

The Museum of the Landing in Sicily - 1943 was established by CATANIA REGIONAL PROVINCE with deliberative committee n. 720 of the year 2000. The works of execution have been entrusted to the architect Gaspare Mannoia.

Seat

The Museum extends on a surface of 3000 square metres, stands in the building Le Ciminiere. The building belongs to Catania Regional Province.

The building, is a place of sulphur-mines rescued from Catania thanks to the architect Giacomo Leone. This is one that has combined architectonic modernity and historic memory of the places. This model of industrial archaeology which appears above the sea, today is the centre not only of the Museum of the Military Landing and the Cinema Museum, but also a centre of meeting and cultural initiatives.
